Deutsche Telekom Sees €2.5 Billion in AI and Automation Savings by 2030
The German telecom group is presenting AI as an efficiency tool, offering a different perspective from giant model-training budgets.
Deutsche Telekom expects automation and artificial intelligence to reduce indirect costs by around €2.5 billion by 2030, Reuters reported in early October. The company highlighted uses including network traffic management and customer-support processes.
The announcement is a forecast, not a booked saving. A useful test for business AI projects is whether the cost of implementing and maintaining systems is lower than the expenses removed or the additional revenue created. Improvements in response times alone do not always demonstrate a financial return.
For Europe's enterprise technology market, measurable process improvements may be an important counterpoint to speculative infrastructure spending. Telecom networks and customer-service operations generate large volumes of repeatable tasks, but security, reliability and human oversight remain necessary. Companies making similarly ambitious forecasts will need to show how savings materialize over several reporting periods.
