Thailand Sets October 16 Launch Date for Bitcoin and Ether ETF Rules
Thai regulators plan a limited first phase for domestic cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds with custody and exposure controls.
Thailand's securities regulator issued a crypto ETF framework scheduled to take effect October 16, The Block reported October 9. Initially eligible funds may track bitcoin or ether and must meet minimum average exposure and approved custody conditions.
The framework is not an unrestricted approval of every cryptocurrency product. It establishes requirements around disclosure, eligible assets, exchange listing and custody while restricting margin-financed ETF purchases.
For investors the practical questions are management fees, liquidity, market-price premiums or discounts, and how custody is supervised. A listed fund can simplify access but cannot eliminate the underlying token's volatility.
Watch local asset managers' filings and regulator notices for the first actual listings. Effective rules do not mean trading starts on the same day or that any fund has already attracted investors.
