Brent Oil Settles Above $104 as Hurricane Shut-Ins Offset Diplomatic Relief
Crude reversed early weakness on Friday as Gulf of Mexico production interruptions competed with hopes of easing Iran tensions.
Reuters reported October 9 that Brent futures settled near $104.72 a barrel while WTI finished around $91.85. Early selling followed diplomatic comments suggesting less near-term escalation, but precautionary offshore production shutdowns supported prices.
The two benchmarks represent different crude grades and delivery locations, so their absolute prices need not match. Short-term weather disruption, shipping risks and refinery demand can shift the differential even when the overall oil direction is similar.
Friday settlement values are not live quotes for the weekend. Watch storm-damage assessments, shipping developments and the restoration of offshore output before extrapolating a new oil-price trend.
