Silver Climbs Above $60 as Precious Metals Regain Ground
Silver, platinum and palladium joined gold's Friday rebound, but industrial demand gives their prices additional drivers.
Reuters reported October 9 that spot silver advanced by around 2.4 percent to approximately $60.77 per ounce during the reporting session. Platinum and palladium also registered gains, reflecting improved sentiment across several precious metals. All cited price levels refer to the specific reporting window rather than live Saturday market conditions.
Although silver is often grouped with gold, its demand includes electronics, solar equipment and other industrial uses. Platinum and palladium also respond to auto-catalyst demand, mine supply and substitution between the metals. Their price changes need not follow gold's direction or magnitude over longer periods.
When yields and the US dollar retreat together, multiple dollar-denominated commodities may rise. However, such correlations can break when manufacturing expectations weaken or physical supply conditions change. A shared daily move does not mean that each metal has the same economic fundamentals.
Readers should compare spot prices, futures maturities, physical premiums and available inventory information. Past moves and quoted intraday prices should not be presented as an opportunity with a predictable future return.
