Bitcoin-Denominated Life Insurer Meanwhile Raises $37.5 Million
A new financing round for a regulated crypto-focused insurer highlights demand for bitcoin-based wealth-planning products.
The Block reported October 9 that Bermuda-based insurer Meanwhile secured $37.5 million in a round led by Bain Capital Crypto. The business offers life-insurance products with premiums and benefits denominated in bitcoin, including a single-premium option for eligible non-US clients.
The product is not equivalent to holding bitcoin in a self-custody wallet. Policy conditions, claims obligations, insurer reserves, custody arrangements and the value of bitcoin at relevant dates all influence the economic result.
For prospective policyholders, tax treatment and residency eligibility may be as important as bitcoin exposure. The investment round shows backer confidence but is not proof that a particular policy is suitable for any reader.
