Dogecoin Futures Open Interest Falls as Memecoin Traders Reduce Exposure
An October 8 derivatives snapshot showed a double-digit contraction in Dogecoin open interest, a sign that traders were cutting leveraged positions.

Leverage in Dogecoin derivatives markets fell sharply in an October 8 snapshot. TokenPost reported a 13.34% decline in perpetual-futures open interest over 24 hours, taking the tracked figure to approximately $241 million.
Open interest measures outstanding derivatives contracts. It can decline when traders close positions or are liquidated, but the statistic alone does not tell us whether the next price move will be higher or lower. Nor does positive funding by itself guarantee a bullish trend.
The movement came during a volatile period for the broader cryptocurrency market, with large liquidations reported across major tokens. For memecoins in particular, shallow liquidity, concentrated attention and aggressive positioning can magnify swings.
Readers should distinguish between spot prices, futures mark prices, funding rates and open interest. Each measures a different part of the market. The figures cited are from a dated snapshot rather than a live trading feed. This report is market context, not a recommendation to buy or short DOGE.
