Dogecoin Near 8 Cents as Bitcoin Rebounds: Why DOGE Lagged the Crypto Rally
Dogecoin slipped during Thursday's Bitcoin rebound despite gains in BTC and ETH. Here's what the October 15 price snapshot, inflation data and ETF closure mean for DOGE traders.
Dogecoin's latest market test is about relative strength, not an overnight moonshot. In a market snapshot taken at 9:24 p.m. EDT on October 15, 2026, Benzinga reported that Dogecoin (DOGE) was trading near $0.0813 and had declined 0.2% over 24 hours, while Bitcoin rose 0.8% to roughly $82,257 and Ether gained 1% to around $2,438. Those are historical observations from the cited reporting window, not live October 16 quotations.
The contrast matters because meme coins do not necessarily rise simply because Bitcoin rebounds. When interest rates, liquidity and leverage dominate headlines, money can rotate toward larger, more liquid coins before reaching the most speculative corners of crypto. DOGE is also affected by its own positioning, including trader enthusiasm, derivatives flows and market depth.
Why did Dogecoin lag Bitcoin?
The October 15 session followed hotter inflation data in the United States. Benzinga reported that producer prices rose 6.3% from a year earlier, above the 5.5% consensus estimate it cited. The same report said the probability of a December interest-rate increase had risen according to CME FedWatch. Higher expected borrowing costs can discourage some investors from taking additional speculative risk.
The picture was not uniformly bearish for crypto. Bitcoin had briefly fallen below $80,000 earlier in the session before regaining the $82,000 area, while Ether recovered toward $2,400. Market capitalization and liquidations showed sharp two-way moves: the source reported more than $830 million in crypto liquidations in its 24-hour observation period, with most of the total affecting long positions. It would be misleading to treat a single DOGE quote as proof of a fresh sector-wide crash.
The $0.08 level: support or just a round number?
Traders often highlight 8 cents because it is psychologically easy to remember and close to recent DOGE trading levels. But a round number is not independently validated technical support. A stronger analysis asks how often the price tested the area, how much volume traded there, whether spot buying absorbs selling and whether open interest is rising or falling.
A move above a level without sustained volume may be a short-lived reaction. A move below it does not by itself demonstrate that the coin has become worthless. The correct benchmark is a time-stamped market chart with exchange-specific liquidity and a clearly stated invalidation point, not a social-media prediction.
DOGE ETF closure is a separate story
A second October development makes the price action more interesting. The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) was scheduled to stop exchange trading on October 14, according to the sponsor's SEC-filed liquidation notice. Remaining shareholders are expected to receive a cash distribution around October 22 based on the fund's October 21 net asset value. This is the closure of a particular US fund product, not a delisting of DOGE itself.
The failure of one investment wrapper to attract enough assets may reveal limitations in institutional demand, but it does not measure activity across all Dogecoin wallets or exchanges. Analysts should avoid conflating ETF inflows with coin supply, token transfers or spot trading.
What to watch after October 16
Three separate questions should guide the next check. First, does Bitcoin retain its rebound once US yields and inflation expectations are reassessed? Second, can DOGE outperform other meme tokens on an exchange-adjusted basis, rather than merely rising a few tenths of a cent? Third, do liquid markets show sustained demand rather than one burst of leveraged buying?
For wider context, RecoupRev's October 2026 meme-coin watchlist compares DOGE with PEPE, SHIB, BONK and other well-followed projects. That comparison is available at recouprev.com/article/top-10-meme-coins-october-2026-doge-shib-pepe-bonk.
All quoted prices and percentages above refer to the October 15 reporting snapshot. Market levels may have changed, and none of these observations is a buy, sell or price-target recommendation.
