Ledger Investigates Reported Hardware Wallet Losses Linked to Reseller
Customers who bought devices through a Southeast Asian reseller face precautionary guidance as investigators examine suspected thefts.
The Block reported October 9 that Ledger is investigating reported digital-asset losses involving devices purchased from reseller CryptoBilis. Estimates circulated by on-chain researchers exceeded $72 million and $86 million, but the totals and cause were not independently confirmed.
Ledger asked the reseller to pause shipments and warned some recent purchasers against setting up affected devices while the investigation continues. Hardware wallets reduce exposure to internet-connected keys only when supply-chain integrity and seed-phrase handling are sound.
The case demonstrates why consumers should verify authorized sellers, device authenticity, initial setup and recovery-phrase secrecy. Anyone considering migration should follow official manufacturer instructions and beware of phishing messages posing as urgent support.
Watch Ledger's technical findings and confirmed loss figures. Early blockchain attribution can contain duplicates and cannot alone establish a compromised hardware design.
